’Twas the Night Before Christmas - Spurs in the 6 Edition
'Twas the night before Christmas, with “two shots” in the AT&T house
Not a creature was stirring, not even the Coyote in a blouse; The Derozan and Aldridge mid-range jumpers hung over the basket with care, In hopes that more Spurs victories soon would be there; The rookie Loonie Walker was nestled all snug in an Austin bed, While visions of NBA playing time danced in his head; And the baseline bums in their jerseys, and I in my New Era cap, Had just settled down for a read of the Spurs app, When out on the court there arose such a clatter, I sprang from watching League Pass to see what was the matter. Away to South Texas I flew like a flash, Tore open the San Antonio Express News to read and rehash. The John MacDonald Twitter account was putting on a show Trying to talk some sense into those Spurs fans you know, When, what to my thirsty eyes should appear, But the Friendly Spot, and eight cold Ranger Creek beer, With the river barge tour so lively and quick, I knew we must stop at the Alamo for a pic. The murals of the big three deserve their fame, And I whistled, and shouted, and called them by name; "Now, Duncan! now, Ginobil! now, Parker and Robinson! On, Popovich! on Gervin! on, Bonner and Elliot! To the top of Hill Country! to the I-35! Now Go Spurs Go! Go Spurs Go! Go Spurs Go live!” As entering the H-E-B Center to see G League jumpers fly, When the Mayor of Cedar Park Jeff Ledbetter, looking quite spry, So up to the basket the Nick Johnson dunks flew, With the championship banners, and friends from Spurs on Sixth too. And then, from the rental car, I heard through the sunroof The prancing and pawing of Da Bull’s mascot hoof. As I returned to the Six, and the plane landed on the YYZ ground, Down at Scotia Bank Arena the Toronto Raptors were found. They were dressed in red and black, with Nikes on each foot, And Drake the Global Ambassador was providing input; An Ovo branded “North” Jersey he had on his back, And he cheered as Kyle Lowry drove to the rack. Nick Nurse’s eyes twinkled! His mood was so merry! His league leading record, even impressed hockey’s Don Cherry! Danny Green’s podcast put on a good show, And kids played ball in Underpass Park without any snow; The Pascal Siakam bandwagon that Zach Lowe bequeath, And the GoDaddy jink encircled CJs PJs from beneath; With Real Sports before the game and food in my belly, That poutine was delicious, the Raptors play not smelly. Time to go up highway 427, I thought to myself, And watch the future play, not just sit on a shelf; A wink of Jama Mahlalela’s eye and a twist of his head, Soon gave me to know that Jerry Stackhouse departure was nothing to dread; Chris Boucher spoke barely a word, but went straight to his work, And filled all the baskets; then turned with a smirk, And watched Jordan Loyd staring to compose, And breaking ankles, the Raptor 905’s will was imposed; Seated in press row, I enjoyed the final whistle, And thankful for my four teams away I flew home like missile. But I had to exclaim, as I drove into night, HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GOOD-NIGHT!
