Unlike their parent team (sorry, I couldn’t help it), the Raptors 905 once again won the first game of the series – this time in the D-League Eastern Conference Finals.
Behind 33 points from C.J. Leslie (in 21 minutes!) and 22 from Pascal Siakam, the 905 posted an impressive 109-84 win over the Maine Red Claws. As usual, an excellent game recap can be found over on Raptors Republic.
Heading into game 2 at Hersey Centre on Wednesday, here are three things that I will be looking for:
Stepping up: Having lost Alex Toupane and Eddy Tavares to NBA call-ups as the playoffs have progressed, the remaining players on the Raptors 905 roster continue to step up. With Brady Heslip struggling through a 2-10 performance, Leslie’s scoring outburst was huge for the 905.
Who’s up next?
Home sweet home: The attendance at the Portland Expo Building on Sunday was 1,358, yikes. Look for the home crowd at the Hersey Centre on Wednesday to exceed 5,000 and make a difference.
Deference: With the 905 struggling to score at times, their deference kept the game under control. In particular, I have enjoyed watching John Jordan embrace the challenge on the defensive end and look for him to continue to make a difference on D.
